Kong Dog Bed: Is it Durable, Chew-proof & Water-proof

KONG is a popular pet accessory brand, based in Colorado, U.S., producing innovative and safe pet toys for more than 4 decades.

While their major is pet toys, they now offer cuisine, pet mats, kennel pads, cat and dog beds, and other pet products.

Kong dog beds are typically longer lasting than average pillow beds because they’re made with high-quality polyester materials, reinforced fabrics that are water-resistant, and chew-proof.

KONG Durable Lounger Dog Bed

A Kong lounger bed is a flat padded bed, designed for dogs that love to stretch out, and also place their heads on a support edge.

It’s a kinda pillow and lounger bed rather than full bolsters.

Kong lounger beds are strong, have reinforced seams, ripstop fabric, skid-resistant bottom, removable and washable cover.

KONG Cuddler Dog Bed

It’s a cushy bed with 3 or 4 bolstered sides and a sleeping surface in the middle.

It is designed for dogs that feel cosy most of the time so they can sit comfortably, enclosed and also lean.

There’s also a KONG Bolster Cuddler that has a flat sleeping surface, and lower bolsters on sides to give cushioning or a headrest.

They are all made with chew-resistant fabrics and reinforced ripstop and are also water-resistant.

KONG Travel Mats and Fold-Up Mats

These are thin mats made for dog crates or cold floors, and when you’re travelling with your canine friend.

They are portable, have less padding, and are lightweight.

KONG Dog Bed for Crates

KONG crate pads are flat beds you can place in your dog crates. They are made with reinforced seams and durable ripstop fabrics that are tear-resistant.

They come in different colours and limited sizes.

The sizes of KONG dog beds vary depending on the model.

There are small, medium, large and extra large-sized beds.

Standard bed size is around 22 × 28 inches while the large and extra large beds can be 30 × 40 inches or more.

How long do King dog beds last?

Under normal use, it can last up to 4 years before the seam begins to rupture and the padding collapses.

After a few years, the fabric can begin to pill, the mattress can flatten, seams can have issues, and other minor problems.

Getting the appropriate size for your dog’s weight, how often it’s being used, and how chewy your dog is are the major factors that affect the lifespan of the beds.

Are Kong dog beds chew-proof?

Kong dog beds are made with high-quality polyester material that’s chew-resistant, but not indestructible in the actual sense.

If you have a German shepherd, bulldog, Labrador retriever, rottweiler or any heavy chewer, they can damage the vulnerable parts like edges, seams, and zippers, over time if you don’t distract their attention from the furniture.

Is the Kong dog bed orthopaedic?

Some of the varieties are marketed as orthopaedic. While it offers comfort for dogs and can support seniors and dogs with joint issues, it has less cushioning compared to standard orthopaedic beds.

Standard orthopaedic beds are designed to meet the needs of dogs with advanced joint problems, not just to offer comfort.

How to clean Kong dog beds?

You can machine-wash the bed cover, but don’t throw the mattress into your washer.

You can brush out dirt from the bed, and use a soft brush and mild detergent with lukewarm water to clean it.

If the inner cushions or liners are messy and smelling, then soak in a soap solution, add vinegar for 20 minutes, then rinse and dry in the sunshine.

Make sure the foam or fill is completely dry before it’s used again to prevent mould or odour.

If it’s waterproof, you can hose it clean, or wipe with a damp towel, and air-dry.
